UV DISTRIBUTION ON REALISTIC 3D RECEIVERS
1. BODY MODELS
The body models are so-called 3D-Wire-Frame models. Wire-frame
models are described by polygons of at least 3 points. Polygons
border an area which is assumed to be flat. Each point has a
number. A list defines which points build the polygon. Each
polygon has a colour (indexed). Typically the models consist
of 50,000 to 70,000 polygons.
A variety of different body models are available: adult males,
adult females, teenagers, boys, girls. These models can be dressed
and hair style can be changed.
Most important is the ability of the models to strike different
poses (standing, sitting, lying etc) and also to move.
2. BODY DISTRIBUTION OF UV RADIATION
Each polygon has its well defined orientation (inclination
and azimuth). On the other hand it is possible to model UV radiation
falling on a flat receiver of any orientation and at any location,
date and time. With that we can colour the body in respect to
incoming irradiance. It becomes possible to follow the body
exposure during a day or to compare exposure of certain body
parts in dependence of different variables.
Below you can see our first approaches for the location of Vienna
on June 21st. Red denotes high exposure, dark green denotes
low exposure.

3. VIRTUAL REALITY
The body models are available as VRML files. With that it is
possible to rotate, turn around,… the model with your web-browser
as you would like. For this you have to install a VRML-viewer
plugin (For example: Cosmo Player, http://cic.nist.gov/vrml/cosmoplayer.html).
After you have installed the plugin you can view some of our
approaches. Just click on one of the image below to view.
Please note that the file size is around 10MB so it will need
a few seconds until the model appears.
